Anthony Priest to Speak at Special Collections Open House

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – In honor of American Archives Month, the University of Arkansas Libraries’ special collections department will host an event featuring a presentation by author and editor Anthony Priest. Priest will discuss the research process of Yonder Mountain: An Ozarks Anthology, that he edited and is published by the University of Arkansas Press. The event will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, in Room 130 on the lower level of Mullins Library. A reception will be held starts at 3 p.m., followed by a review of the special collections department’s accomplishments from last year.
Priest is associate professor of English at Missouri State University in West Plains. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in writing from Missouri State University in Springfield and a Master of Fine Arts in poetry from Washington University in St. Louis. He has written for many publications, including Christianity and Literature, Slant, Phoebe, Cave Region Review, and Elder Mountain: A Journal of Ozarks Studies. Yonder Mountain will be available for purchase, and he will sign books following the program.
American Archives Month is celebrated annually each October to draw attention to the importance of archives and archivists in preserving America’s historical record.
“Special Collections is pleased to commemorate Archives Month in celebration of the preservation of our rich history,” said Timothy G. Nutt, head of special collections. “We have wonderful items in our holdings documenting all aspects of Arkansas history, including the papers of some of the state’s most distinguished literary figures who are included Priest’s books.”
Parking in the Stadium Drive Parking Facility is recommended. The event is free of charge and open to the public.
