University of Arkansas Press Publishes New Edition of A Documentary History of Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas Press has published a new edition of A Documentary History of Arkansas (paper, $21.95). The book is a comprehensive look at Arkansas history, using newspaper articles, government bulletins, legislative acts, broadsides, letters and speeches to give a firsthand glimpse at the state’s history from its earliest events to the present.
The book, edited by C. Fred Williams, S. Charles Bolton, Carl H. Moneyhon and LeRoy T. Williams, was originally published in hardback by the press in 1984, with a paperback edition published in 2005. The 2013 edition is divided into five chronological sections that cover the state’s political, social, economic, educational and environmental history. It also has been brought up to date and expanded with additional material. The book is commonly used in college courses across the state and is considered to be the standard source for essential primary documents illustrating the state’s history.
Bolton, C. Fred Williams and LeRoy T. Williams are professors emeriti of history at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Moneyhon is professor of history at UALR.
The University of Arkansas Press was founded in 1980 as the book publishing division of the University of Arkansas. A member of the Association of American University Presses, it has as its central and continuing mission the publication of books that serve both the broader academic community and Arkansas and the region.
