Issues in the Trayvon Martin Case Subject of Panel Discussion

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Center for Multicultural and Diversity Education will kick off its new Diverse Perspectives dialogue series with Trayvon Martin in Review: Messages for Today's America, a panel discussion and open forum at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, in the Arkansas Union Theater. A reception will immediately follow the event in the lecture hall of the Center for Multicultural and Diversity Education.

“The program is intended to promote healthy dialogue regarding the complex issues surrounding the Trayvon Martin case and their ramifications for our society moving forward,” said John Jones, director of the Center for Multicultural and Diversity Education.

Charles Robinson, vice chancellor for diversity and community, will moderate the discussion. Panelists will be Cory Anderson, vice president of the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation; journalism professor Patsy Watkins; assistant professor of law Laurent Sacharoff; criminal defense attorney Leon Jones; and Ron Harris, founder and president of the youth empowerment organization A Level Up.

“This is an important opportunity for students to learn about the implications relative to the case,” Robinson said.

The Diverse Perspectives dialogue series is planned as an ongoing effort to engage students, staff, faculty and community members in meaningful conversations about issues of diversity and inclusion.
