Arkansas Teacher Corps Seeking Applicants

Arkansas Teacher Corps at the University of Arkansas is now accepting applications for its second class of teaching fellows. Arkansas Teacher Corps provides an accelerated path to teaching for talented individuals with the overall goal of having a lasting impact on students and communities in Arkansas.

The program created in the College of Education and Health Professions is seeking high-achieving individuals from all majors to teach in high-need school districts. Successful applicants will be placed in a full-time, paid teaching position and receive a $5,000 stipend per year in addition to a regular teaching salary.

Information and the application form are available on the Arkansas Teacher Corps website. Applicants are required to have a bachelor's degree by summer 2014 and demonstrate academic success and public service.

Last year, the program received more than 130 applications for the 22 spots available. This year, the program plans to place up to 40 new teachers.

Each fellow will complete an intensive six-week training program. Districts will also supply mentors to assist the new teachers. The program will guide applicants through the non-traditional teacher licensure process so that each fellow receives a five-year standard teaching license.
