Kevin Billings Wins the Student Affairs Social Media Scavenger Hunt Challenge

This year the Division of Student Affairs decided to take a new approach to engaging students during the HOG W.I.L.D Welcome Weeks with a social media scavenger hunt challenge.

From Aug. 26 until Sept. 7, 15 challenges were tweeted and posted on Facebook. The challenges varied from simply following student affairs on Twitter and Instagram, to posting a picture of yourself with one of the deans of student affairs.

The primary goal was to make students aware of the Division of Student Affairs' social media outlets and the division's desire to connect with the students through these mediums.

"We wanted to reward the students for making these connections, as well as expose them to all of the different opportunities that the YOU of A have to offer," said Scott Flanagin, director of communications for student affairs. "So we had daily coupon give aways to on campus dining locations, and a big prize for  one of the students who completed the most challenges."

The grand prize was a $100 gift card to any Chartwells location on campus.

After announcing the winner the Division of Student affairs sat down with Kevin Billings and discussed his motives and experiences in the scavenger hunt challenge. The first question was what motivated Billings to participate. He responded saying, "This was an opportunity for me to get involved. It also gave me the chance to interact with the Student Affairs department." From challenges such as the helpful tip, which was Billings' personal favorite, he was able to learn about welcome week and several other activities for student involvement. When being asked why he felt it was important for student's to interact with the You of A's social media Billings said, "It can help students become aware of what is going on." Students can learn about ways to get involved on campus through social media and can also learn how to better integrate into college life.

The Division of Student Affairs is striving to meet students where they are. Follow on @UA4Student  on Twitter & Instagram, and like the "Division of Student Affairs-University of Arkansas" page on Facebook.  There will be more interactive social media activities taking place throughout the school year for anyone to learn more about the YOU of A, and win great prizes.
