Carleton Holt, University of Arkansas associate professor of educational leadership, has been elected to the position of president-elect of the National Council of Professors of Educational Administration.

Holt will serve as the organization's president during the 2014-15 academic year. He will receive the president's gavel at the close of the next annual meeting in August 2014 at California State University Channel Islands. He will be in charge of the schedule for the August 2015 meeting in Washington, D.C., and will preside over that meeting.

As president-elect, Holt must approve expenditures over $500 before they can be paid by the executive director of the organization.

Last year, Holt was elected to the Board of Directors of the group, serving a three-year term through the 2014-15 academic year.

The National Council of Professors of Educational Administration was established in 1947, making it the oldest organization in the United States representing professors of educational administration. The educational administration program at the University of Arkansas is now called educational leadership.

Holt joined the faculty of the College of Education and Health Professions in 1999. He won the college's faculty award for outstanding advising in 2009 and for his department in 2009. He also won those same two awards in 2006.

Holt was named most outstanding faculty member by the Associated Student Government in 2011 and again in 2013. He is the author of a textbook titled School Bond Success: A Strategy for Building America's Schools that is in its third edition. He has also written 18 articles published in refereed journals.

The National Council of Professors of Educational Administration serves the interests and needs of professors and practicing school leaders, offering professional development through publications and conferences. Holt also serves as curriculum and instruction topic editor for submissions to the association on that subject.
