University Recreation to Offer New Group Fitness Formats this Fall

Let University Recreation help expand your workout routine through a variety of group fitness classes. University Recreation group fitness classes will be held Monday, Aug. 25, through Thursday, Dec. 12.

By providing participants with the energy and motivation of exercising with others, group fitness classes can help participants stay committed to their exercise program.

"Group fitness classes are a fun way to get a great workout without realizing you are working out" says Samantha Jones, Broadcast Journalism student at University of Arkansas. Group fitness classes are instructor-led classes set to music that focus on various fitness components such as cardiovascular endurance and total body strength.

University of Arkansas students, faculty, and staff are eligible to take group fitness classes at no cost. All other UREC membership types must purchase a semester group fitness pass for $40, which includes group fitness for both facilities, the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Building and the UREC Fitness Center in the Arkansas Union. Registration is required once per year, and can be done either at the UREC membership office, HPER 225, or at the specific class location.

All classes are available on a drop-in basis. Spots for our more popular classes will be available online prior to class. Go to the University Recreation homepage at urec.uark.edu to see if the class that you wish to take appears on the "Hot Class" list. If the class you wish to take appears on this list, online reservations are required. If the class that you wish to take does NOT appear on that list, walk-up check-in will be used. Visit urecmembers.uark.edu for all online class reservations. There will be several new group fitness formats to look for this fall!

BOSU Conditioning – Simultaneously engage the core, burn calories, build muscular endurance and improve balance in this high intensity workout targeting all of the major muscle groups.

INSANITY – One of the top-selling extreme fitness programs of all time is now available in a group fitness setting. Insanity is a high intensity, max interval training workout utilizing athletic drills. The results are high caloric burn, faster results, and a more efficient metabolism. Every participant will be encouraged to dig deeper!

Knockout – A combination of several different formats in one Knockout class! This class includes classic kickboxing punches and kicks, sports conditioning drills, and strength training to create one exhilarating workout. This class does not involve physical contact and is designed for all levels.
