FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Workshops and many other features continue through August at Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs. Visitors can enjoy activities such as exploring the special art glass exhibit, learning how to grow berries, and relaxing while doing yoga.

“Splash of Glass: A James Hayes Art Glass Installation” remains on display through Sept. 30. Art Glass creations by Hayes, a Pine Bluff artist, have been splashed across the 210-acre peninsula of the garden. The exhibit features about 225 unique, multi-colored pieces placed in 13 areas of the garden. These creations include traditional works such as bowls and chandeliers, as well as fanciful pieces shaped like flowers, onions, mushrooms and vines.

“Three Artists,” an art exhibit featuring award-winning artists from Hot Springs Village, will be displayed through Aug. 31. Pieces by Millie Steveken, Cynthia Schanink and Pat Langwise will be on exhibit from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily in the Magnolia Room. Their artwork includes florals, animals, still lifes and landscapes, including many garden scenes.

Alan Vandenbergh continues his monthly yoga classes from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Klipsch Amphitheater. In this quiet venue with views of Lake Hamilton, the classes are geared toward the beginner level in yoga and build on previously learned skills, with hands-on instruction. Participants should wear clothes geared for more comfortable movement and bring their own mats and an old bath towel or other protection to use under the mat.

Pat Ford, from Renee’s Berry Garden in London, Ark., will talk about growing summer berries during the Gardening 101 Workshop: “Summer Berries” from 9:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 20 in the Magnolia Room. Renee’s Berry Garden, operated by the Ford family since 1996, is a pick-your-own farm that takes a holistic approach to farming.

The Gardening 101 Workshop: “Canning and Preservation” will be held from 1-3 p.m. Aug. 20 in the Magnolia Room. Jessica Vincent, Garland County extension agent, and Phyllis Pipkin, with the Garland County Extension Homemakers Council, will present the basic fundamentals and benefits of canning and freezing food at home.

Garvan Woodland Gardens is the botanical garden of the University of Arkansas.

The gardens are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $5 for children ages 6-12 and free for children ages 5 and younger.

Some events and activities are free. Some require a fee, advanced registration or prepayment.
