Extension Food Scientist Earns Prestigious Designation
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – John A. Marcy, extension food scientist
in the Center of Excellence for Poultry Science in the University of Arkansas
System's statewide Division of Agriculture, is part of the inaugural class of
designated certified food scientists by the Institute of Food Technologists.
The certification was created in response to a
profession-wide study in which food science supervisors affirmed that a
certification was needed and would help employers identify qualified personnel.
The vast majority of supervisors also agreed that the program would help
increase the recognition and visibility of the profession. Through earning the
certification, Marcy has demonstrated the requisite applied knowledge and
skills and commitment to lifelong learning required to earn this distinction.
The Center of Excellence for Poultry Science and the poultry
science department include a complex of teaching, research and extension
facilities at the Arkansas Agricultural Research and Extension Center and the
John W. Tyson Poultry Science Building on the University of Arkansas'
Fayetteville campus.
