Editors, Station Managers Named for 2013-14 Student Media

Five students have been chosen as editors and station managers for the four student-operated media on campus. Members of the Student Media Advisory Board interviewed applicants and chose leaders during the board's March and April meetings.

The new editors and station managers are:

• The Arkansas Traveler: Nick Brothers, editor
  
• KXUA Radio: Tina Parker, station manager
  
• Razorback Yearbook: Olivia Jones and Rebecca Soard, co-editors
  
• UATV Television: Martha Swearingen, station manager
  

Nick Brothers is a junior combined English creative writing/print and editorial journalism major. He has always enjoyed writing, even as a kid, and he loves the opportunity to meet new and interesting people each day as a journalist. He plans to drive The Arkansas Traveler to its maximum potential as editor. When he's out of the office, Brothers' hobbies include playing guitar and violin, collecting music records, scriptwriting, and performing improv comedy. After graduating, he plans on moving to Chicago to pursue a career in journalism.

Martha Swearingen is a junior pursuing undergraduate degrees in accounting and broadcast journalism while minoring in Spanish. After college she plans to obtain a master's degree in accounting and become a certified public accountant, which is part of her goal to work in the business side of television and production. If she's not at the UATV studios in Kimpel Hall, she can be found coaching her 13-year-olds volleyball team or interning at KNWA in the business department.

Olivia Jones is a senior advertising and public relations major in the journalism department at the University of Arkansas. She has been a designer for the Razorback Yearbook for three years. She has been apart of a yearbook staff for six years and was the editor of her high school’s yearbook as a senior. She has a passion for design and hopes to bring her ideas to life in this next year’s yearbook.

Rebecca Soard is a senior journalism major in the advertising and public relations sequence at the University of Arkansas. She has been a writer for the Razorback Yearbook for three years. Originally from Salem, Mo., Rebecca held the position of the Vickery Intern at the Salem News during her senior year of high school. With her affinity for writing, Rebecca hopes to create a book that tells the stories of the students at the University of Arkansas.

Tina Parker is a junior majoring in journalism in the editorial and news sequence and minoring in anthropology. She has worked at KXUA for two years as a DJ and news director. Prior to coming to the university, Parker served as a medical specialist in the U.S. Army National Guard. During the last year, she wrote for the Carroll County News, and she is interning at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette this summer.

Positions on the student media are open to all students, regardless of major or year in school. Offices of The Arkansas Traveler, the Razorback Yearbook and UATV are on the first floor of Kimpel Hall. Offices of KXUA are in A665 of the Arkansas Union.
