This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: April 26-May 3
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will hold several events in the coming week including concerts, art exhibitions, plays and receptions. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these on-campus and off-campus performances in the visual and performing arts.
The University of Arkansas Student Gallery, sUgAR Projects: Student Pop-Up Gallery, will close a month of multi-student exhibitions Friday, April 26, with a reception from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at East Square Plaza (1 E. Center Street, formerly known as the Underground) on the downtown Fayetteville square. The closing reception will feature BYO, a one-day-only group exhibition featuring works by first- and second-year graduate students, advanced sculpture students and advanced painting and drawing students.
Euphonium student Amber Lomolino will perform a recital at 7 p.m. Friday, April 26, in the Fine Arts Center's Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
Five music students will perform degree recitals on Saturday, April 27. Christine Hsu will present a piano recital at 10:30 a.m., and Melis Soyarslan will also give a piano recital at 12:30 p.m. Jordan Wilhelm will perform a euphonium recital at 3:30 p.m., Catalina Barrazza will perform a violin recital at 6 p.m. and Hank Miller will perform a percussion recital at 9 p.m. Each performance will be in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
William Chase Neely will give a percussion recital at noon Sunday, April 28. Also on Sunday, Torneshia Rogers will perform a voice recital at 3 p.m. and Dallas Tucker will perform a percussion recital at 7:30 p.m., all in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
Anna Hall will present a student flute recital at 8 p.m. Monday, April 29, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
Amy Frenzel will perform a piano recital at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
Also on Tuesday, the University Symphony Orchestra concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Walton Arts Center. Tickets will be $1 for students and $5 for the public.
The BA and BFA Annual Awards Exhibition will be on display in the Fine Arts Center Gallery from Monday, April 29, until Saturday, May 4. This exhibition will be comprised of work from all media, showcasing each concentration.
Conducting student Patrick Bellah will conduct a chamber ensemble at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, in Giffels Auditorium.
Also at 8 p.m. that evening, guest artist Svetlana Belsky will perform a piano recital in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
The UA Children's Choir will perform at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. Following that performance, music professor Jura Margulis will present a piano recital at 8:30 p.m.
An awards presentation and gallery reception for the BA and BFA Annual Awards Exhibition will be at 5 p.m. Friday, May 3, in the Fine Arts Center Gallery.
Continuing events include Company and Crafted Identities.
The University Theatre continues its run of Stephen Sondheim's Tony-award winning musical Company Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. The show's final performance is at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 28, in the Fine Arts Center's University Theatre. Tickets are available in the Fine Arts Center box office and are $3 for University of Arkansas students, $14 for faculty and staff, $16 for adults, $14 for seniors and $7 for children. Tickets may also be purchased online at http://drama.uark.edu.
Hosted by sUgAR Crafted Identities an honors thesis exhibit by Emily Chase, Melissa Love and Jeanne Vockroth will conclude Friday, April 26, in the East Square Plaza.
