Movement Improvisation Workshop to Be Held May 20-23
Do you enjoy moving, but feel self-conscious in a dance technique class? Do you love to dance, but want to try something new? University Recreation will be hosting a Movement Improvisation Workshop, designed to develop kinesthetic awareness while building strength and flexibility in the body.
This workshop, taught by Kathleen Heil, will incorporate guided exercises involving distinct approaches to improvised movement. Students will investigate, among other principles: the body’s relationship to the floor and in three-dimensional space, discovering possibilities for movement outside of our habitual movement patterns, using improvisational movement as a means for refining understanding of composition, and increasing clarity and specificity of movement as a way of improving creative and kinesthetic awareness and control.
No prior dance experience is necessary. This workshop is open to anyone interested in expanding their possibilities for movement, increasing their physical fitness, and refining their artistic sensibility. Artists, athletes, and creative individuals practicing in any discipline are encouraged!
Times are 10 a.m. to noon Monday, May 20, through Thursday, May 23, in HPER 216.
Cost is $45 for U of A students; $55 for all other UREC membership types. Participants must have a UREC membership to attend. Non-members may attend with purchase of a guest pass for all class dates and accompaniment by another UREC member.
