The Price of Vice: The Side Effects of Legislating Morality

Experts will explore the effects of gambling law and legislating moral issues at 12:45 p.m. Friday, April 26, in the E.J. Ball Courtroom at the University of Arkansas School of Law. The event is free and open to the public and qualifies for one hour of continuing legal education.

Professor Ronald Rychlak of the University of Mississippi will give a brief history and description of gambling laws in the United States. He also will discuss the pitfalls of government-owned lottery and how casinos affect the local economy.

Professor Jason Arentz of the University of Arkansas will provide commentary on why "effects the local economy" is a faulty way of considering gambling, and on the economic impact of legislating issues traditionally considered "moral."
