FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Kattie Wing, who has served as director of financial aid at the University of Arkansas since 2006, has announced her retirement, effective April 12.

Wing began her career at the university as a temporary employee in the financial aid office 25 years ago. She steadily rose in the ranks until being named as director.

“Kattie has had many years of excellent service to students, faculty and staff, and we are grateful for her commitment to our students and families. Her wisdom and knowledge will be missed,” said Wendy Stouffer, executive director of academic scholarship and financial aid. Stouffer has been appointed as interim financial aid director while a search is under way for Wing’s replacement.

Wing has helped thousands of U of A students receive their degrees over the years by successfully managing their federal and state aid funding. Under her direction, the financial aid office implemented many new initiatives such as the net price calculator, student telecounseling center, electronic funds transfer and electronic loans processing.

“I have been fortunate to help many fulfill their dream of an education,” said Wing. “The idea of ‘Students First’ is one that I have always fully embraced. My number one mission my entire career has been to serve students well.”

“Her leadership over the years has been invaluable to our campus and she will be missed by the university community,” said Suzanne McCray, vice-provost for enrollment management.  “We wish Kattie the very best in her retirement.”

Wing has been active in the Arkansas Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, where she just completed a term as president. She currently serves as training chair for the Southwest Association of Student Financial Aid Association.

Wing said she looks forward to using her retirement to volunteer in her grandchildren’s schools, work in her garden and travel.
