Supply Chain Management Department Hosting Logistics Doctoral Symposium
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The department of supply chain management in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas is hosting the 2013 Logistics Doctoral Symposium on April 4-6.
The event, conceived 10 years ago for leading universities in the logistics and supply chain management fields, provides guidance to doctoral students in the field for research, teaching, publishing, service roles and the tenure process.
“It is an honor to be selected to host the top scholars in supply chain management for this symposium,” said Matt Waller, chair of the supply chain management department and holder of the Garrison Endowed Chair in Supply Chain Management. “It is an excellent opportunity to network with fellow students and faculty and a chance to display all that is great about the Walton College and the University of Arkansas.”
The symposium will bring about 80 doctoral students and faculty from over 25 universities across the country.
Chancellor G. David Gearhart will welcome symposium attendees at a reception April 4. The reception will focus on the importance of logistics and supply chain management as a growing academic discipline and the university’s commitment to the field as a strategic priority.
Conference sessions will be held all day Friday, April 5, in Willard J. Walker Hall on the university campus. Seminars will be held throughout the day on topics concerned with helping educate the doctoral students in research and hypothesis development as well as the job search process.
The morning of April 6 will include a session with editors from key logistic and supply chain management journals. Afterward, doctoral students will discuss their research with senior faculty at a series of research roundtables.
The symposium concludes Saturday afternoon. Participants can choose to take a tour of the university’s RFID Research Center or travel to Bentonville to visit Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
