The Disc Golf club, one of 31 teams in the University Recreation Club Sports program, is hosting the 11th Semi-Annual Razorback Classic tournament on Saturday, March 9, on Old Main Lawn. This event is a major fundraiser for the club who hopes to return to North Augusta, South Carolina to compete in the National Championship Tournament April 3-7.

Registration for the tournament begins at 9 a.m. and costs $25 for all divisions, which includes entry fee, lunch and a chance to win prizes from local sponsors.

“We encourage people to come out and play in this very special event that the club works hard to make unique and enjoyable for everyone,” said Robert Davis, president of the club. “All levels are welcome to compete in this tournament and the public is encouraged to come out and watch.”

Last semester the Disc Golf club competed in tournaments in Appling, Ga., and Austin, Texas, where they did well but did not earn a bid to Nationals in April. “We were faced with stiff competition that we just weren’t quite prepared for and could not clinch a win,” Davis explained.

The club is confident that this semester will be different. Competing in March at the Gateway Collegiate Classic with veterans Robert Davis, James Wall, returning veteran Erik Bailey, and rookie Kevin Barnes, the club is sure to compete at their best and bring home a bid for Nationals.

The Disc Golf club practices every Thursday at Lake Fayetteville and is open and looking for new members of all abilities, including athletes new to the sport. Email discgolf@uark.edu for more information and to pre-register for the Razorback Classic. ‘Like’ the Disc Golf club on Facebook.
