Authors to Sign Books at ESL Symposium

Joyce Nutta and Carlos Cortes will sign their books during the fifth-annual University of Arkansas ESL Symposium on Feb. 22.

The symposium takes place from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at GuestHouse Hotel, formerly the Clarion Inn, in Fayetteville. Cost is $115 with a special price of $60 for students. Registration may be done online. Deadline is Feb. 15 to register.

Nutta, an associate professor and coordinator of English as a second language education at the University of Central Florida, will give a keynote address at the symposium. She is the author of Preparing Every Teacher to Reach English Leaners: A Practical Guide for Teacher Educators published by Harvard Education Press.

Cortes, professor emeritus of history at the University of California, Riverside, will perform the one-person play that he wrote, “A Conversation with Alana: One Boy’s Multicultural Rite of Passage.” He is the author of Rose Hill: An Intermarriage Before its Time published by Heyday Books.

The University of Arkansas Bookstore will have copies of the books available for purchase. The authors are expected to sign their books between 12:30 and 1 p.m.
