University to Test RazALERT System this Week
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas will conduct a test of its RazALERT (pronounced raise-alert) emergency message system this week at a day and time still to be determined. The test messages will be sent out by text, email and voice mail.
Plans for the test were made two weeks ago, before the severe weather conditions that prompted a RazALERT warning on Tuesday, Jan. 29.
“We identified several problems in the alert process after the tornado warning message was sent out last Tuesday,” said University Police director Steve Gahagans. “We have worked to correct those problems, and this test will help determine if we have been successful, or if there is more that needs to be done.”
The test should also serve as a reminder to all students, faculty and staff to update their RazALERT contact information in the ISIS and BASIS systems. Students can use their ISIS account to designate up to six telephone numbers to receive voice messages, and one of those to receive text messages. Faculty and staff can designate up to three phone numbers in the BASIS system to receive either voice or text messages.
