Safe Ride received a donation from McBride Distribution

Angela Ryan of McBride Distribution Co. Inc. will present a check to Associated Student Government at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, in support of the ASG's Safe Ride program at Safe Ride Headquarters, 116 S. Graham Street.

Tori Pohlner, ASG president, noted: “Safe Ride is one of the most meaningful programs or initiatives of ASG. I am confident that providing this service keeps students out of countless uncomfortable situations, and undoubtedly saves lives each and every week. This donation from McBride not only helps our students, but helps give peace of mind to our families. I can't thank McBride enough for their generous support of our program.”

The mission of the Safe Ride program is to provide students with a free, safe means of transportation from any uncomfortable or inconvenient situation. During operating hours, Safe Ride can pick up a student at any location within the Fayetteville city limits and transport them to their residence as indicated on ISIS. Last academic year, Safe Ride gave nearly 7,000 students a lift home, totaling 11,000 miles. In addition to philanthropic support, Safe Ride is funded by students via student fees.

The Safe Ride Program has two main components: Night Owl Service and Safe Ride Service. Night Owl Service operates Monday and Tuesday nights, from 10:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. and provides service on campus only. Safe Ride Service operates Wednesday through Saturday nights from 11 p.m. 3 a.m. and provides service from anywhere in the Fayetteville city limits to student’s official residence as indicated in ISIS. For service, call 479-575-SAFE (7233).

This is the second year McBride has supported Safe Ride as part of their Alcohol Responsibility Initiative. McBride Distributing Co. is a Fayetteville-based company that distributes Anheuser-Busch products across Northwest Arkansas.

Students are invited to attend. A light reception will follow the presentation. More information on Safe Ride can be found at the Safe Ride website.
