Arkansas Teacher Corps Sets First Deadline for Jan. 18
The early decision deadline for applicants interested in Arkansas Teacher Corps Fellowships is this Friday, Jan. 18. The program aims to provide an accelerated path to teaching for talented people with the overall goal of having a lasting impact on economically disadvantaged students and communities in Arkansas. The program is seeking high-achieving individuals from all majors to teach in high-need school districts. Successful applicants will be placed in a full-time paid teaching position and receive a $5,000 stipend per year in addition to a regular teaching salary.
Each Fellow will complete an intensive six- to eight-week training program. Districts will also supply mentors to assist the new teachers. The program will guide applicants through the non-traditional teacher licensure process so that each fellow receives a five-year standard teaching license.
The new program developed in the College of Education and Health Professions is designed to help Arkansas school districts in high-need areas fill open teaching positions.
Applicants are required to have a bachelor’s degree in any major and demonstrate academic success and service orientation. The application is available online at the program website. Fellowships beyond the first deadline are awarded on a rolling basis with a deadline of March 15.
