University Recreation Group Fitness classes will begin on Monday, Jan. 14. By providing participants with variety, enjoyment and support in their fitness experience, group fitness classes can to take the “work” out of your workout. Group Fitness classes are instructor-led classes set to music that focus on various fitness components such as cardiovascular endurance and total body strength.

“Group Fitness classes create an environment where people come together for a common goal,” says Jessica Graham, graduate assistant for UREC Fitness/Wellness. “The instructors also help to motivate you, which provides a positive support system.”

University of Arkansas students, faculty, and staff are eligible to take Group Fitness classes at no cost. All other UREC membership types must purchase a semester Group Fitness Pass for $40, which includes Group Fitness for both facilities. All classes are available on a drop-in basis.  Registration is required once per year, and can be done either at the UREC membership office or at the class location.

There will be several new group fitness formats to look for during the spring 2013 semester!

Aqua Zumba brings the Zumba party to the pool! Integrating the Zumba formula with traditional water fitness, Aqua Zumba blends it all together into a safe and FUN workout that’s cardio-conditioning, body-toning, and most of all, exhilarating beyond belief.

RIPPED is a “Plateau Proof Fitness Formula.”  This FUN and energetic class masterfully combines Resistance, Intervals, Power, Plyometrics, Endurance, and Diet for the “One Stop Body Shock.”

Water Power will maximize your workout with this water-based, cardio conditioning class. Incorporating lap swim, kicking, water running, and water weights, you will raise your heart rate and have fun! Basic swimming skills required.

T’ai Chi provides fluid, gentle and graceful movements that will aid in visual and mental concentration, allowing energy to flow through your body.  These techniques help to integrate the body and mind, and allow the achievement of total harmony.
