Greenblogger Competition Winner Is Addie Benson

Addie Benson, author of “Old World New Girl” and an architectural studies major and sustainability minor, was chosen as the winner of the Greenblogger Competition. The contest was a 90-day blogging in the fall 2012 semester sponsored by the Office for Sustainability and the Quality Writing Center. Addie wrote several blog posts about architecture, sustainability and student life.

“Her blog embodied the spirit of the competition, focusing on writing style, the use of media, and posts that articulated the importance of creating a sustainable future,” said Bob Haslam, a judge in the competition and the director of the Quality Writing Center. Steve Boss, co-director of the sustainability minor, also listed Old World New Girl at the top of his list. Addie wrote, developed and applied her knowledge, skills and abilities learned in her architecture and sustainability courses to further the discussion of a socially and environmentally just world.

Addie has won a $500 cash prize. Her blogging endeavor is not over, however, and she will continue writing about old world architecture, sustainable solutions to complicated problems, and design.
