On Jan. 4, Eric Specking began a new position as director of undergraduate recruitment for the College of Engineering. In this position, Specking, who was previously the associate director of undergraduate recruitment, directs the undergraduate recruitment activities for the College of Engineering, hires and supervises recruiting personnel and directs the college’s summer outreach activities.

Specking, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering from the university in 2009, has been involved in college recruiting activities since 2005, when he began working in the engineering recruitment office as a freshman. Since then, he has been actively involved in the 100 percent increase in new freshman enrollment in the college. Specking has also tripled the number of engineering summer outreach programs, raised over $260,000 to support these programs and developed a social media presence for the college.

“Eric’s energy and enthusiasm have been a huge asset to our recruitment efforts,” said Bryan Hill, assistant dean for recruitment, honors and international programs. “He inspires everyone around him—his staff, prospective students and high schools around the state—to appreciate the value of an engineering degree.”

Specking is currently working on a master’s degree in industrial engineering.
