The office for sustainability is seeking a Water Bottle Tower construction coordinator intern to create a water bottle sculpture to highlight Water World Day and the campus’ bottle water consumption, disposal and alternatives for students, staff, and faculty.

The sculpture will be placed on the Union Mall for four weeks this spring. The sculpture will represent the number of bottles improperly sent to the Eco-vista Landfill in Tontitown. It is estimated that 12,000 bottles of water are improperly disposed of each day by the University of Arkansas campus.

Since 2011, the UA has installed several Elkay water bottle filling stations across campus, most notably in the Union and in several residence halls. With these stations, the University is reducing its waste stream and greenhouse gas emissions, and students are saving money. The Water Bottle Tower will be used as visual to encourage students, staff, and faculty to be conscious of how they dispose of their plastic bottles.

Engineering students are preferred for this position. Please submit a cover letter and resume to sustain@uark.edu by Jan. 31.

In addition to the coordinator intern, the office for sustainability is looking for volunteers to collect empty water bottles at the Razorback Recycling facility to fill the water bottle tower. Volunteers will assist with building, dismantling and proper disposal of the structure.

If interested in volunteering, please contact sustain@uark.edu.
