Volunteers Needed for DNA Recovery Study

Elizabeth Lee, an assistant professor of nursing at the University of Arkansas, is seeking volunteers for a research study that may support the recovery of DNA more than 72 hours after intercourse. The research findings are expected to aid in the conviction of rape suspects.

In 2012, the University of Arkansas teamed with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center for this multisite study funded by the National Institute of Justice.

The traditional time limit for collecting DNA evidence is currently 72 hours. For the study, Lee needs fertile, heterosexual monogamous adult couples who will engage in intercourse at least three times before mid-February. Each partner participant will receive $150 when all DNA specimens are processed successfully by the forensics lab. Samples will be collected on campus between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Pat Walker Health Center.

For more information or to volunteer, contact Lee at ealee@uark.edu.
