FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. –Sloane Roberts, from Rison, a senior communications major at the University of Arkansas, is also the reigning Miss Arkansas. She'll compete for the Miss America crown in January, but an online competition has already started.

This year one of the 15 Miss America finalists will be a “people’s choice” selection, made before the actual pageant begins, picked by voters online.

Sloane Roberts and all the other contestants have posted a personal video at http://www.missamerica.org/videocontest and on the “Video Contest” tab at www.facebook.com/missamericaorganization. Robert’s video was produced, shot, and edited by Chad Harcourt, a U of A journalism student with an emphasis in broadcast journalism.

"As a part of the U of A community and Sloane's local director, I cannot think of a better representative for Arkansas at Miss America than Sloane Roberts”, said Robyn Starling Ledbetter, journalism instructor and Miss Arkansas preliminary local director. “She epitomizes everything that Miss America stands for. I encourage all students, faculty and staff to vote for her as America's Choice!"

Each video gives the contestant a chance to demonstrate her style and personality, as well as explain why she should be the next Miss America. Fans can vote for their favorite at either site. There is a limit of one vote per person and internet accessible device. Voting ends at 11:59 p.m. PST on Jan. 10.

The contestant who receives the highest number of eligible and verified votes during the voting period will be chosen to participate as one of the 15 finalists in the Miss America Competition. The “people’s choice” winner will be announced during the Miss America Competition. The pageant is being held at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas and will be broadcast live on ABC starting at 6 p.m., Saturday Jan. 12.
