Ethan Spiva, November Student Leader of the Month

Ethan Spiva has been selected as the Student Leader of the Month for November. Originally from Springfield, Mo., Spiva came to the University of Arkansas to major in accounting and finance. Spiva currently serves as the president of Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity, and as a student ambassador for the Sam M. Walton College of Business. His previous leadership positions include treasurer of Pi Kappa Alpha, accounting manager for Students Acquiring Knowledge through Enterprise, and tutor for Business Foundations.

When asked to identify the most important qualities in a leader, Spiva said, “The most important qualities a leader should have are commitment and patience. The two go hand-in-hand because as an organization is developing and improving, a leader must stick with it and continually drive others to contribute.” In closing, Spiva shared his favorite quote from John Quincy Adams: “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”

The Student Leader of the Month award, sponsored by New Student & Family Programs, recognizes University of Arkansas undergraduate students for their excellence in leadership through campus involvement, leadership activities, or through volunteer and community service. More information about the award can be found at http://nsfp.uark.edu/4483.php. All nomination forms should be submitted to Jordan Scribner, graduate assistant for New Student & Family Programs, via email at jascribn@uark.edu by the first Friday of each month.
