Garvan Woodland Gardens to Host Workshops for Home and Garden

Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs is hosting workshops this month to help people prepare their homes and gardens for the winter season.

A Gardening 101 Workshop titled “Preparing Your Garden For Winter” will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon Monday, Nov. 12, in the Magnolia Room at the Welcome Center. Ike Carroccio, owner of Shades of Green Landscaping and Garden, will present tips on how to extend the color in home gardens through the fall. He will also discuss ways to prepare home gardens for the spring. This workshop is free to members; regular Gardens admission applies for non-members. Pre-registration is required.

The “Better Ways to Light up the Holidays” workshop will be held from 2:30-5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, in the Magnolia Room at the Welcome Center. Garden staff members will present the most efficient ways to light up home landscapes. They will also share ways they’ve conserved energy while offering one of the best holiday lighting displays in the state. After the workshop, participants can stroll through the gardens’ lighting display. Cost is $20 for members and $30 for non-members. Advanced registration is required, and space is limited.

Garvan Woodland Gardens is the botanical garden of the University of Arkansas.
