La Vera Costanza: Toni Salar-Verdu, Philippe Castejon and Marie Ross with their basset horns

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – La Vera Costanza will perform at the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31. The trio of basset horn players is based in Cologne, Germany, the European capitol city of early music.

International musicians Toni Salar-Verdu, Marie Ross and Philippe Castejon each bring a varied and individual experience to the group, creating a unique musical ensemble enjoyed by audiences throughout Europe. They have been called “virtuosos,” their basset-horn sounds have been described as “warm and passionate” and the German newspaper Aachener Zeitung wrote, “all three are experts of historical performance and masters of these almost forgotten instruments.”

The trio was started in 2009 with musicians from the Concerto Köln, a period-instrument orchestra. Under the artistic leadership of Salar-Verdú, La Vera Costanza has performed in some of the most prestigious concert series and music festivals throughout Germany and Europe. This season they were invited to perform in Berlin at the “Haus am Waldsee,” the Berlin Philharmonic’s chamber music series.

The Wednesday night concert is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the Stadium Drive Parking Facility, where parking is free after 5 p.m. Entrance to the parking facility is on Stadium Drive, and the facility’s elevator will take patrons to street level directly across from the Fine Arts Center.
