Angela (Angie) Chang Chiu, Student Leader of the Month

Angela “Angie” Chang Chiu has been selected as the Student Leader of the Month. Originally from Cochabamba, Bolivia, Angie came to Fayetteville to enroll in the University of Arkansas’s nursing program.

Though nominated for her outstanding work as a Peer Assistance Leader (PAL) in Off Campus Connections, Angela’s additional activities and involvement include the Student Nurses Association, National Student Nurses Association, International Bolivian Organization, Hispanic Heritage Month Committee, Chinese Students and Scholars, Eagles Camp, Make a Difference Day and a note taker for the Center for Educational Access. Angie has also served as an orientation mentor and a student coordinator for R.O.C.K. Camp.

When asked why she got involved in these clubs and organizations, Angie said, “I am passionate about influencing individuals’ lives and serving as a role model. I get involved with organizations in hopes that I can lead by example and leave my legacy within the Razorback community. After all, the difference between ordinary and extraordinary is just a little extra.”

Angie reminds other leaders that “no leader makes it to the top on his or her own. Personal and professional relationships are at the root of every success, and when you are a leader, you represent more than just yourself; you are the face of an organization, and through your values, your words, and your actions you can choose to make a positive impact.”

The Student Leader of the Month award, sponsored by New Student & Family Programs, recognizes a University of Arkansas undergraduate student for their excellence in leadership through campus involvement, leadership activities, or through volunteer and community service.

More information about the award can be found at http://nsfp.uark.edu/4483.php. All nomination forms should be submitted to Jordan Scribner, graduate assistant for New Student & Family Programs, via email at jascribn@uark.edu by the first Friday of each month.
