Campus Sustainability Day Is Tomorrow, Wednesday

Campus Sustainability Day is on Wednesday, Oct. 24. The office for sustainability will facilitate two events to celebrate this special occasion:

  1. Campus Sustainability Convergence – 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in ARKU 509-510.
  2. Viewing of “Preparing Students for a Changing Climate” – 1-2:30 p.m. in ARKU 509-510.

The Campus Sustainability Convergence will include representatives from the Office for Sustainability, the Applied Sustainability Center, The Sustainability Consortium (unconfirmed), the Student Sustainability Council, and the Associated Student Government. These groups will meet with each other and the campus community in an informal setting to discuss who they are, what they do and how their work can impact the university and our community. Participants will also be encouraged to share their ideas for a sustainable campus.

The viewing of “Preparing Students for a Changing Climate” will proceed the Convergence.  This is a live-interactive, broadcasted panel discussion.  Featuring Dr. Geoffrey Chase, leader of the Ponderosa Project, Julie Elzanati, Director of the Illinois Green Economy Network, Neil Weissman, Provost of Dickinson College, and Debera Johnson, founder of the Pratt Design Incubator for Sustainable Innovation, this panel invites questions from the audience to discuss best practices for creating ecological curriculum, advancing experiential and living laboratory learning, and engaging faculty and the surrounding community in meaningful and critical education.

The campus community is highly encouraged to attend both events.

Light refreshments will be served.
