FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Midwest Winds, the United States Air Force Woodwind Quintet, is coming to the University of Arkansas on Thursday, Oct. 11. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall and is sponsored by the department of music in J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.

Midwest Winds strives to inspire and tell the story of the Air force through its performances. The ensemble has performed for millions of people across the world as well as world leaders such as Pope John Paul II and President Bill Clinton.

The quintet is asked to provide music for small military retirements, changes of command, holiday caroling for military and civilian employees and other official military functions. The group also reaches out to America’s young music students, offering concerts, clinics and master classes in wind chamber repertoire and instrumental technique. These performances allow students a unique opportunity to see a professional music group in person and talk to members about music and the United States Air Force.

The ensemble reflects the values and excellence found every day throughout the Air Force. The group will deliver its versatile, unique, musical product Oct. 9-14 at several locations in Fayetteville. In addition to the university, other venues include Fayetteville High School, the Fayetteville Public Library, the Veterans Administration Center and Good Shepard Lutheran Church. For additional details on concert dates, times and locations, go to http://www.bandofmidamerica.af.mil/events.

The Thursday night concert is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the Stadium Drive Parking Facility, where parking is free after 5 p.m. Entrance to the parking facility is on Stadium Drive, and the facility’s elevator will take patrons to street level directly across from the Fine Arts Center.
