John Delery speaks at conference in Austria

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – John Delery, professor in the management department at the Sam M. Walton College of Business, was one of the keynote speakers at the 2012 annual conference of the Association for Human Resources Management in International Organizations in Vienna, Austria.

Delery, who holds the Raymond F. Orr Chair in Management at the Walton College, spoke to the group about strategic human resource management in the global context. Delery’s research focuses on how the management of human capital influences organizational performance. Other speakers at the conference included representatives of the World Bank, the Vienna University of Economics and Business, Harvard Medical School and others.

“This is more evidence of the global reach of the faculty in the Walton College,” Delery said. “Invitations such as this are the direct result of the reputation of the college as a source of top-tier research and scholarship, and that reputation is earned through high quality publication by the entire faculty.”

The Association for Human Resources Management in International Organizations was established in 2000 to meet the professional needs of those who are concerned with the management of human resources in international not-for-profit organizations throughout the world. Attendees at the conference included representatives of some of the world’s most prominent non-governmental organizations.

“We are justifiably proud that Dr. Delery was selected to address this distinguished international forum,” said Alan Ellstrand, chair of the management department and holder of the Charles C. Fitchner Chair. “It demonstrates the prominence of his research record and reflects very well on the Walton College and the management department.”

Delery also was recognized in a recent journal article as one of the most influential researchers in management in terms of journal citations. He was ranked as the 290th out of 384 most influential researchers in management by the Academy of Management Perspectives article.

Delery’s research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Center for Human Resource Management at Texas A&M University. He has published articles in the Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Personnel Psychology, Human Resource Management Review and Research in Personnel/Human Resource Management.
