The Associated Student Government and the office of new student and family programs are proud to announce the Clay family of Fayetteville as the 2012-2013 Honorary Family.

“The Clay family is very engaged on campus and in the community, so I am delighted that our students have chosen them as this year’s Honorary Family,” said Danny Pugh, vice provost for student affairs and dean of students.

Savannah Clay is a junior psychology major at the University of Arkansas. She, alongside her mother Beth, her father David, and her sister Mary, will be honored at halftime of the Arkansas Razorback football game against Rutgers on Saturday, Sept. 22, during Family Weekend.

All of the Clay family is deeply connected to the University of Arkansas. Both of Savannah’s parents graduated from the University of Arkansas, and her father David has been a team physician for Razorback football since 1995. Savannah’s younger sister, Mary, is currently a sophomore at the university. Savannah stated in her application, “This honor would mean more to them and my family than anyone could imagine.”

The Honorary Family represents the university as the model Razorback family. The model Razorback family exemplifies the Arkansas spirit and provides exceptional support for their students to succeed at the university. This year, a dozen applications were submitted for this honor. The difficult selection of the Honorary Family was tasked to a selection committee consisting of seven student leaders and staff from across the university. Said one committee member, “This was a difficult selection process. We had 11 other deserving, outstanding families who support their children and the university.”

The Clay Family will receive tickets to the Chancellor’s Box in Reynold’s Razorback Stadium. They will also receive hotel accommodations for the weekend as well as the PorkChop Package that includes Sunday Brunch, Friday Night Live, Tailgate Brunch, Razorback gear and much more. Friday night, the family will have dinner with the ASG executive officers, where they will receive their tickets and passes.

Savannah said of her family, “I was motivated to attend the university because of the great education my parents received. I remember the chills I felt the first time I walked on campus with my family when we went to see their names on Senior Walk. Nothing can explain the overwhelming feeling of pride and determination I felt.”
