The department of drama in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will hold two plays this semester, highlighting two very different styles of theater.

University Theatre will begin its 2012-2013 season with 33 Variations by Moisés Kaufman, author of The Laramie Project. The play tells the story of a woman’s blinding drive to unlock the intricacies and meaning in Beethoven’s work, all while her own life crumbles around her. This tragic tale employs humor while exploring themes of art, regret and letting go. Directed by Amy Herzberg, professor of drama and director of the performance program, 33 Variations will run September 28-30 and October 3-7.

The department’s second production of the fall semester is Blithe Spirit. Considered to be among British playwright Noel Coward’s best comedies, Blithe Spirit tells the story of a novelist who invites a medium to conduct a seance in hopes of finding material for a new book. Instead, the spirit of his volatile first wife appears, intent on unleashing chaos on his current marriage. Mavourneen Dwyer, associate professor of drama, directs the play that will run November 9-11 and 14-18.

The University Theatre Ticket Office, located in the lobby of the Fine Arts Center, is open from noon to 3 p.m. all week beginning the Monday prior to a show's opening. The Box Office is also open two hours prior to each performance (6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for evening performances and noon to 2 p.m. for matinees). Season passes are also available.
