Transit and Parking Making it Easier to Park, Get Around, On and Off Campus

University Parking has done several things to make parking a little easier on campus this school year.

First, it’s now easier to get most parking permits. Student, faculty/staff, reserved and remote permits are now being sold online at My Parking Account on the Transit and Parking department website. Students, faculty, and staff can buy a permit from their home or office computer. There’s no driving or waiting in line, which saves time and gas, while helping reduce traffic around campus.

It’s also easier to use a parking meter. Thanks to Parkmobile a driver can pay for hourly parking with a debit or credit card, using a mobile phone. Instructions for using Parkmobile are on signs and information cards in all parking garages, lots with hourly parking and on single space meters around campus. Just call the number on the sign. Or, download the Parkmobile app before arriving at the meter. Then just enter your vehicle information and complete your transaction from your mobile phone. If a class or meeting runs late Parkmobile will send a message to your phone 15 minutes before the meter expires and you can use Parkmobile to buy additional time from your phone.

The latest parking updates are also now available on facebook at Parking – University of Arkansas. Just “like” the page to find out where to park – or not to park – during home games, concerts or other special events. You’ll get construction updates, too.

There’s also a new parking garage on campus, replacing some spots lost last year to construction. The Meadow Street Parking Garage is under the new football practice field, and has reserved, faculty/staff, metered and scooter spaces available.

Many students, faculty and staff can avoid the expense of parking by using Razorback Transit buses. The ride is free, the buses run regularly all around the main campus and Uptown Campus as well. Routes also run by many Fayetteville apartment complexes, the Northwest Arkansas Mall and other shopping areas. And, it’s easier than ever to catch the bus: all buses and routes can be tracked online, in real time, on your computer or your smartphone. You can use either the Campus Map on the university homepage, or use download the UARK Mobile app to your smartphone. Never again do you have to stand in the heat or rain or worse, wondering when the bus is coming. This new feature also includes parking and transit alert messages.

For those who prefer alternative transportation, bicycle permits are free, there’s plenty of free parking for bikes all around campus, and all Razorback Transit buses are equipped with bike racks. If you don’t own a bike, Razorbikes provides free loaner bicycles to students, alumni, faculty, and staff who sign-up and use the program. Razorbikes are available at bike loops located around campus.

For people on campus who need a car now and then, Transit and Parking has partnered with Hertz Rental to bring the Hertz on Demand program to campus. Hertz on Demand allows students, faculty and staff, 18 or older, to rent vehicles by the hour or day.
