Selecting Childcare Workshop
Do you have questions on selecting the best childcare for your children or grandchildren? If so, then join Mardi Crandall on Monday, Aug. 6, in the Pat Walker Health Center, Room 283, to find answers to your questions and learn about the components of true quality childcare.
Crandall, an instructor in the area of child development, will be leading this workshop. Crandall has been involved in the UA Laboratory programs since 1992 and her academic training is in the areas of Child Development and Parent Education with a specialization in the early years.
By the end of this 90-minute session, participants will be able to:
- List three reasons that their decision about childcare options is vitally important to their children.
- Recognize the components of true quality childcare as opposed to childcare assumed to be quality, specifically related to: health and safety of children; warm and friendly relationships of staff toward children; individualizing specifically for the experience of each child; curriculum planned for the “whole” child: social, emotional, physical, and intellectual; ideal ratios of caregivers to children; effect of environment, both indoors and out.
- Articulate the types of available childcare and the advantage/disadvantages of each.
- Discuss the state- and nationally-sponsored accreditations and what they mean.
- Formulate a list of questions to ask potential child care providers.
- Take an optional tour of the Jean Tyson Child Development Study Center to receive information about their program.
