Two Engineering Professors Named IIE Fellows

Richard Cassady and Manuel Rossetti, both professors of industrial engineering, have been named Fellow by the Institute of Industrial Engineers. Fellow is the highest classification of IIE membership.

Cassady has taught at the University of Arkansas since 2000, and his teaching and research focus on reliability and maintainability engineering, statistical quality control, operations research and probability and statistics. He is author of the textbook Probability Models in Operations Research.  In 2006, Cassady led an effort to develop a first-year program for engineering students at the University of Arkansas, with the goal of increasing retention and graduation rates, and he serves as director of the Freshman Engineering Program. Now in its sixth year of operation, this program has increased the College of Engineering second-year retention by approximately 10 percent.

Rossetti is the 2012-2013 holder of the John L. Imhoff Chair in Industrial Engineering. He teaches courses in the areas of probability modeling, discrete event simulation, object-oriented and database systems, transportation/logistics modeling, and inventory modeling. Rossetti has served as the departmental ABET coordinator, chair of undergraduate studies and chair of graduate studies, and he is currently the associate department head. He was selected as a Lilly Teaching Fellow in 1997/98 and has won the University of Arkansas Industrial Engineering Outstanding Teaching Award in 2002, 2008, and 2011. Rossetti is also the author of Simulation Modeling and Arena published by John Wiley & Sons Inc.
