Peabody Hall Restoration Wins Preservation Award from City of Fayetteville
The restoration and rehabilitation of the University of Arkansas’ historic Peabody Hall has earned the university a Best Preservation Practices Award from the City of Fayetteville and the Fayetteville Historic District Commission.
An awards ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 3 in front of the Center for Continuing Education at 1 E. Center St. during this month’s First Thursday activities.
A team from the University of Arkansas facilities management, consulting architects Schwartz/Silver Architects Inc. of Boston, the Little Rock construction company East-Harding Inc. and Allison Architects Inc. of Fayetteville developed design solutions that would respect and restore the historic character of Peabody Hall At the same time the design resulted in a state-of-the art facility for preparing teachers for the 21st Century classroom.
The city of Fayetteville Preservation Awards are given each year to recognize efforts to protect and preserve, and adaptively reuse Fayetteville’s historically significant structures. Historic preservation is crucial in retaining a community’s character, identity and evolution. Preservation and restoration can be an effective tool for economic development and revitalization, achieving urban sustainability through reducing waste and emissions, and maintaining property values.
