Phi Beta Lambda Members to Represent University of Arkansas at the National Level

Phi Beta Lambda is a professional business organization that has been newly established on the campus of the University of Arkansas. The purpose of Phi Beta Lambda is to provide post-secondary students a chance to sharpen their business and leadership skills. Allowing for this kind of personal growth in all of its members, it is paving the way for our society to have better and more competent leaders and successful businesses. All of those within its organizational bounds are instilled with a sense of civic duty and responsibility.

At Phi Beta Lambda's State Leadership Conference in Little Rock over the April 12-14 weekend, the fledgling University of Arkansas Fayetteville chapter met with the other 25 chapters from all over the state. It was greeted with warm welcome and with an overall positive atmosphere. Along with meeting the members, officers, and advisers from other chapters, the members for the Phi Beta Lambda chapter also competed in several contests of business knowledge and leadership skills.

For having been at their first state conference, the Fayetteville team did exceptionally well. Out of all the officers and members from the chapter that were present, 75 percent of them received an award and/or plaque for proving exceptional ability in business and leadership skills. Kanat Bektemirov placed first in the event “Computer Concepts,” and Matthew placed second in the event “Held Desk.”

Because of its success, the Fayetteville Phi Beta Lambda chapter was formally invited to the 2012 Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference in San Antonio, Texas, this upcoming July 24-27. The students look forward to competing with brightest students from all over the country.

The following students will represent the University of Arkansas at the national level: Eric Pacheco, chapter president; Kanat Bektemirov, chapter vice-president; Matt Luttrell, chapter treasurer; Kerwin Davis, chapter secretary; and JaLynn Thomas, chapter adviser.
