Five Career Counselors Certified as Global Career Development Facilitators
The University of Arkansas Career Development Center career counselors have
completed the National Career Development Association’s Global Career
Development Facilitators certification. Angela Williams, George Winter, Marshall Carter, Aleshia
Sokoloski and Erica Estes-Beard worked toward the certification from May 2011 to
January 2012.
The Career Development Facilitators training program is an intense training program that
includes up to 120 hours of instruction. In order to be certified, the career
counselors have shown mastery in the 12 GCDF competencies: Helping skills, diverse populations, ethical
and legal issues, consultation, career development models, assessment, labor
market information and resources, technology, employability skills, training
clients and peers program management/implementation, promotion and public
relations. The association's curriculum for certification has
been approved by the Center for Credentialing and Education.
Mary Alice Serafini, assistant vice provost for student affairs and director of the Pat Walker Health Center, commented on this achievement: “The Career Development Center staff have
pushed themselves towards even greater excellence as career counselors. These
professionals have demonstrated their commitment to student success through
this unique certification in career development, a first for the University of
Arkansas. This certification not only
serves students through best practices but greatly strengthens the University
of Arkansas Career Development Center team."
