UA Chapter of National German Honor Society Initiates 27 New Members

The Iota Xi chapter of Delta Phi Alpha, the national German academic honor society, recently held its annual banquet and initiation. The chapter was founded in 1983 and includes approximately 380 members, making it one of the most active chapters in the country.

Members must have a high overall GPA and high GPA in German, have completed at least one 3000 level or higher course in German, and have sophomore standing.

Wynfrid Kriegleder of the University of Vienna in Austria, was the featured speaker with a lecture on “Warum braucht man eine österreichische Literaturgeschichte?” (“Why does one need an Austrian literary history?”) Earlier in the day, Kriegleder also lectured on Charles Sealsfield, an escaped Bohemian monk who was touted as the “Greatest American Writer.”

The chapter congratulates new student members Stuart Bailey, Adrian Beam, Bart Belaire, Eric Bruton, Chelsea Burris, Kaylee Christie, Kahlilah Fleming, Brittany Gillespie, Michael Hartman, Christopher Harvey, Kyly Hawk, Chelsea Hodge, John Paul Huber, Nathaniel Johnson, Erica Leeman, Ethan McBride, Carl Monson, Lauren Pavlik, Brent Perkins, Julia Perkins, Rocio Martinez Rendis, James Russell, Eric Salazar, Alexandra Stassen, Gabrion Stewart, Madeleine Williams, and Brittany Wulf. The Delta Phi Alpha faculty adviser is Michael André.
