Campus Day 2010 brought hundreds of prospective students to campus

The University of Arkansas will hold its biennial Campus Day from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 4. Approximately 1200 students, grades 6-9, from Northwest Arkansas and surrounding regions will take part in a series of activities across campus. Volunteers are needed to help introduce the students to the university and the opportunities of a college education. Students, faculty and staff are all welcome to volunteer as full day or part day volunteers.

Volunteers will welcome the prospective students to the campus, help provide an in-depth tour of the campus, including a variety of activities at different departments.

Full-day volunteers will be provided with an event t-shirt, lunch, and a day of fun. This volunteer opportunity has been approved by Human Resources for meeting the service requirement for the Diversity Certificate Program.

Campus Day is organized by the university Talent Search programs, and the students are all taking part in the Educational Talent Search, College Project, or University Access Talent Search at their participating schools.

These programs are funded by the U.S. Department of Education and promote the skills and motivation necessary for low income, minority, first-generation college and other underrepresented students to successfully attend college and graduate. This fall 2011, 86% of graduating senior participants successfully enrolled in higher education. The Talent Search programs are affiliated with the University of Arkansas Office of Diversity Affairs. There are 461 Talent Search programs nationwide.
