Global Campus Offers Certificate Program in Project Management to Business Professionals

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Registration is open for a 30-hour project management certificate program taught by industry experts Tuesday nights, March 6 through May 8.

The 10-session program includes nine face-to-face classes at the Global Campus facility in Rogers, 3300 Market St., and one session that will be completed independently.

The program is $1,090, and online registration is available at http://globalcampus.uark.edu/register. An application for 25 hours of recertification credit has been submitted to the Human Resource Certification Institute.

Participants can earn a certificate of completion and proficiency from the University of Arkansas Global Campus upon successful completion of “Project Management: Plan - Manage - Deliver,” a program that complies with the Learning Resource Network requirements for the Bronze level of intensity and comprehensiveness.

The workshop will provide a strategically oriented overview of project management and will focus specifically on the management of small to mid-sized projects. Specific topics will include risk and change management, program organization, and time management. Instructors also will address the strategic planning process and implementation, including the integration of technology and use of metrics.

“This course should be of interest to anyone who is tasked with the management of small to mid-sized projects — and of particular interest to human resources professionals as it will take them out of their usual comfort zone and seat them side-by-side with their business partners,” said Judith Tavano, senior professional in human resources.

The instructors will be Lou Adler, formerly a visiting professor in the operations management program in the department of industrial engineering at the University of Arkansas; Mark Tocco, an educator and management consultant based in Fayetteville who has extensive operational and growth management experience; and Jeff Amerine, a technology licensing officer with an office at the University of Arkansas that helps faculty and research scientists identify, protect and commercialize intellectual property.

Adler has more than 30 years of experience in the pulp and paper industries in North America, Europe, Scandinavia and Southeast Asia. He developed and applied process improvements and automation technologies that achieved savings of tens of millions of dollars annually.

Tocco has Fortune 100 management and consulting experience, working in the past for Ford Motor Co., Boeing Co., Johnson & Johnson, Abbott Laboratories, Hewlett-Packard Co. and Daimler-Benz USA, L.L.C. He is on the board of directors for the Northwest Arkansas Entrepreneurs Alliance and teaches business management courses at the college level.

Amerine teaches entrepreneurship at the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas and serves as a consultant to the state program, “Innovate Arkansas,” which is chartered with the creation and support of a knowledge-based economy in Arkansas. He spent 18 years in industry, building technology businesses.
