Institute to Offer ACT Training to Latino High School Students

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The ALPFA Institute – a joint venture between the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas and ALPFA, the largest organization for Latino business professionals and students – will help make the road to college a little bit smoother for 78 Latino scholars this February.

Students from Rogers High School, Springdale High School and Rogers Heritage High School who participate in the ALPFA Leadership Academy will be offered two training sessions to help prepare for the ACT college entrance exam.

“In today’s world, a college education is a powerful tool for success and we want our Latino students to be equipped,” said Jay Amargós, managing director of the ALPFA Institute, which is located at the Sam M. Walton College of Business. “The importance of these training sessions is not only in the fact that we are providing a key step to getting into college, but we are also exposing them to the idea that a college education is actually obtainable and a realistic goal for them to strive to achieve.”

The training sessions will take place on each high school’s campus on the following dates:

  • Rogers High School: Feb. 20 and Feb. 27
  • Springdale High School: Feb. 21 and Feb. 28
  • Rogers Heritage High School: Feb. 22 and Feb. 29

The ALPFA Institute was founded in 2011 and has made Walton College a hub for thought leadership in the Latino business community.
