Middle East Expert to Look Back at 'Arab Spring'
"Arab Spring" uprisings began nearly one year ago
Juan Cole, one of the foremost authorities on the modern Middle East will present a public lecture on “The Arab Spring One Year Later: What does it mean for the United States?” The free lecture will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, in the University of Arkansas Global Campus auditorium on the Fayetteville Square.
Cole is the author and curator of Informed Comment, one of the most respected and widely read politics and international affairs blogs on the internet, and has a regular column at Truthdig. He is Richard P. Mitchell Collegiate Professor of History at the University of Michigan and has written extensively on the history of the modern Middle East. He has been a regular guest on PBS’s Lehrer News Hour, and has also appeared on ABC Nightly News, Nightline, the Today Show, Charlie Rose, Anderson Cooper 360, Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, Democracy Now!, and the Colbert Report.
This lecture is sponsored by the Middle East Studies Graduate Association, the Associated Student Government, King Fahd Center for Middle East Studies at the University of Arkansas and the Osher Center for Lifelong Learning.
