Third Walton College Dean Candidate Holds Open Forum
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The third of four candidates to be the next dean of the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas speaks to the campus community Monday, Feb. 6.
Stephen Mangum, senior associate dean and professor of management and human resources at Ohio State University, speaks at an open forum from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Donald W. Reynolds Center for Enterprise Development.
Mangum received his doctorate in economics in 1984 from George Washington University, where he also earned a master of philosophy in economics. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Utah. He has served as senior associate dean since 1996 and was interim dean of the business school in 2007-2009. Mangum has published in a variety of professional journals, including Labor Law Journal, American Journal of Economics and Sociology and the Industrial and Labor Relations Review. His research topics are diverse: military manpower, national training policy, returns to post-school occupational training, regional economic development, physician migration, contingent employment and poverty. Mangum serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Manpower. His work in international human resource development includes activities in Mauritania, Oman, Northern Ireland, India, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.
The other three candidates for the position are Sarah Gardial of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; David Urban of Virginia Commonwealth University; and Eli Jones of Louisiana State University.
