School of Social Work Donates Books to Fayetteville Public Library
The School of Social Work donated approximately 15 boxes of books to the Fayetteville Public Library on Dec. 5, 2011.
The staff has been preparing for renovations to the Academic Support Services Building, which houses the School of Social Work, and in the process discovered several boxes of books that the school could no longer use. The books included textbooks, books on social justice and related issues, as well as children’s books. The School of Social Work’s mission is to “improve the lives of vulnerable persons, families, groups, organizations and communities, [and] facilitate collaborative relationships in the community.”
This can be achieved in many ways, and the school is always striving to find new ways to improve the lives of others and facilitate community involvement, no matter how big or small.
“The School of Social Work recognizes that literacy and education are extremely important to the well-being of Arkansans, and public libraries play a huge role in education, especially for those who may not otherwise have access to books and other educational media,” said YvetteMurphy-Erby, director of the School of Social Work.
Christopher Robinson, a work study student for the school who is majoring in social work, lent a hand in loading books to be transported to the Fayetteville Public Library. “Even something that seems small like donating books to a library can have a lasting impact on a community,” noted Robinson.
