Application Window Nears for Students Using Financial Aid to Pay for Correspondence Courses

University of Arkansas students who plan to use financial aid funding to pay for correspondence courses offered through the university Global Campus must apply between Tuesday, Dec. 6, and Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012.

Other rules and deadlines apply for students who do not use financial aid to pay for correspondence courses.

Colleges and schools at the University of Arkansas offer college credit through these print-based and Web-based correspondence courses in human environmental science, anthropology, criminal justice, drama, economics, English, foreign languages, geography, history, journalism, math, philosophy, political science, psychology, social work, sociology, curriculum and instruction, and community health promotion.

Students who want to count correspondence courses for credit toward University of Arkansas degrees must obtain the appropriate signatures from their colleges on the Independent Study applications. A student must be enrolled in 6 university credit hours that are not correspondence courses before he or she can enroll in Independent Study using financial aid.

Applications, a list of available courses, and policies are available online at the Global Campus website at http://globalcampus.uark.edu/Distance_Education/Correspondence_Courses.asp or at the Independent Study office at the Global Campus (School of Continuing Education and Academic Outreach) on the third floor at 2 E. Center St., on the downtown Fayetteville square. For information, call 800-638-1217 or 479-575-3647. For specific deadlines and information, contact the Independent Study office as soon as possible.

Correspondence courses paid with financial aid – which includes grants, scholarships, loans, etc. – follow the traditional academic calendar of summer, fall and spring semesters. Please visit the http://registrar.uark.edu/765.php for semester dates.
