Walton College Career Center’s Co-op Program Company Visits
The George W. Edwards Jr. Career Development Center in the Sam M. Walton College of Business conducts cooperative education company visits each semester with various organizations at which Walton College of Business students are working as part of the Career Center’s co-op program.
Each semester two or three co-op students are selected at random and Career Center staff members meet with the students and their supervisors. These visits help the Walton College Career Center better understand business students’ working environments and establish or build upon relationships with various employers.
This semester, Career Center staff members visited Bear Transportation and Northstar Partnering Group. Samuel Arthur Stevenson, a Walton College senior majoring in Supply Chain Management with a minor in Information Systems, is currently working as an Expeditor/Logistics Account Coordinator at Bear Transportation in Fayetteville. Andrew Brown, a Walton College senior majoring in Supply Chain Management with a minor in Retail Marketing, is currently working as an Analytics Intern at Northstar Partnering Group in Fayetteville. Career Center staff met with the supervisors of both students on Thursday, Nov. 10. Like many working Walton College students, both Samuel and Andrew are gaining invaluable, real-world experience through their co-op experiences. The Walton College Career Center would like to thank Ben Kirksey and Garrett Peters, from Northstar Partnering Group, and Carey Schumann, from Bear Transportation, for taking time out of their busy schedules to meet with us last week!
Other company visits this year include: Johnson & Johnson, Reckitt Benckiser, Colgate-Palmolive Company, and PAM Transport Services Inc.
Cooperative education is an optional, academic program that enables students to gain degree-related experience prior to graduation. Through co-op, eligible Walton College students can receive upper-level business elective credit by working at a job or internship relevant to their field of study. Each semester, 70-120 students participate in the co-op program. Applications are currently being accepted for spring 2012 co-op enrollment.
